Continental Tyres Come Out Tops In Testing in 2010
Continental tyres took number one position in the Autocar rear wheel drive tyre test in 2010 with the ContiSportContact 3. The super high performance tyre demonstrated its back wheel drive abilities in the testcarried outon the Mercedes C280.
On the dry handling track, Autocar stated: “The clear winner was the Continental SportContact 3s. Not only did they providethe quickest lap time, but also the smallest variance in times… Contis had excellent grip and excellentgrip exiting corners.”
The magazine examined the 225/45R17 in Uvalde, Texas. They chose avariety ofcompetition from the main premium brandsrepresenting the tyres availablewithin the local marketnowadays. Autocar tested tyres to the limit througha range of measured disciplines including wet braking, dry braking, straight and curved aquaplaning and rolling resistance. As well as wet and dry handling testing at the track, they considered the tyres purchase cost.
Advance Pitstop’s MD, Eddie Ryan, stated: “We are so happy with this result. ContiSportContact 3 has displayed its prowess in several disciplines. Of the two rear wheel drive tests conducted in 2010, this win means it’s been a clean sweep for the ContiSportContact 3 which demonstratesjust what afantastic performance tyre it really is.”
Autocar also analyzed 205/55R16 on a front wheel drive VW Golf; even though not a winner, the ContiPremiumContact 2 finished a closesecond, missing out onthe number onespotby only 1.5 points. On the ContiPremiumContact 2 test, Autocar said: “Beyond the Continental’s speed, what characterized these tyres the very best was that they felt the most secure.
The ContiPremiumContact 2 shone in the individual tests winning the wet braking, wet handling and dry braking. Ryan added “Yet anotherpowerful safety reason why Continental tyres are 1 of the biggest sellers in our Branches in 2010″.
